Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church

I was very excited to attend Our Lady of Good Counsel for the first time after moving to the area and had been looking forward to it for months. Unfortunately, my experience was extremely disappointing. The church was very crowded and uses chairs instead of pews, which already felt unfamiliar. More importantly, I was not welcomed when I arrived. The environment felt cold and off-putting, and no one made an effort to greet or help new attendees. I asked a woman named Theresa, who appeared to work or volunteer there, for basic information about the church and how things operate. She was rude and disrespectful and made me feel like I was bothering her simply by asking questions. I also inquired about a women’s Bible study. Two women who run it initially emailed me, but then completely stopped responding. I even went downtown and purchased the study book for nearly $50, only to end up returning it since I never heard back. Overall, this was not a welcoming or supportive environment for someone genuinely trying to learn about the church and get involved. Because of this experience, I’ve decided not to return and to look elsewhere. If this parish hopes to attract new members, a more welcoming and compassionate approach would go a long way.

I’m am only leaving this as a hope for change. If that happens, I’ll delete this. There is a negative tone in this church that comes from the current priests. I think they may be overworked or overwhelmed. I’m not sure. But if you are looking for joy, maybe try another place. Honestly, if it wasn’t for the Eucharist, I’d have left a long time ago! The people are great! The ministers are “just carrying out orders.” The priests, of all people, are not welcoming by any means. 2 stars for the volunteers who have to deal with this culture of negativity. As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord elsewhere.

It's a steel building and it's dark. But we don't go to church because of the pleasing aesthetics.I mean, this is not the Cathedral at Aachen, but it is a place where you can worship in the Catholic novus ordo rite. Latin mass please?

Very warm community, rich in faith, mission minded & beautiful mass. Father Guy is very down to earth, speaks clearly, easy to understand, humorous & soeaks to one’s heart. Lots of activities & groups for those who enjoy along w/ community missions (food pantry, coat drive, etc.). Beautiful music ministry, as well. It’s nice to go for worship & not feel you’re wallet is being asked for as they are fiscally conservative. There is no interest in frills - just to build a Christ led community where all feel welcome! Oh, & also great for teens at Sunday Noon mass! The kids really enjoy seeing their friends & the music is very uplifting w/ cool instruments & livelier hymns they know the words to! Has been great to visit here & am starting to get involved!
