Cathedral Basilica of St. Augustine

This is a beautiful, serene place. We are not Catholic but appreciated that we were able to respectfully enter and sit in a pew to soak up the atmosphere and say a prayer. Loved the waving Pope Leo photo in one of the exterior windows - very endearing.

Such a beautiful Cathedral. So grateful they allow visitors during the day to be able sit in peace. Bring some cash for donations with you especially if you want to light a candle. Parking is difficult close by, but worth the walk from public parking areas.

Highly recommend taking the tour of the Cathedral Basilica of St. Augustine with guide, Pete. He is extremely knowledgeable and engaging. He provides in-depth explanations of the cathedral's rich history, architecture, artwork, and religious and local significance. His passion, humor, and ability to make the experience educational and enjoyable is superb. The tour is an absolute must!

We attended a 7AM mass on a Sunday. It was divine. One if the best full of wisdom homilies I have ever heard. I would attend mass almost everyday. It gives me peace of mind and yes, I rest in the Lord. The priest noticed my disability and prayed over me. It was such a blessing. We stayed a little bit to take pictures of this beautiful 18th century Cathedeal Basilica. I would comeback here given the chance again.

The beautiful Cathedral Basilica of St. Augustine is home to the oldest Catholic parish in the continental United States. The parish was established in 1565 when the Spanish first settled St. Augustine, but the current structure was completed in 1797 during Florida's "Second Spanish Period." In 1976, Pope Paul VI elevated the cathedral to the status of a Minor Basilica, a title of honor given to churches of high historical and spiritual importance.
