First Christian Church

I’ve been attending off and on since around 1983. I received my baptism with evidence with speaking in tongues in May 1985 by an anointing from a traveling evangelical minster. (Brother Dornfeld) My life has never been the same. They’re my extended family.

First Church has enriched my wife and kids' relationship with one another by emphasizing Jesus as the anchor for a family. The pastoral staff truly has a heart for God and one for service. Since becoming a partner with the church we've developed deep friendships that I value greatly and never would have anticipated. Trying new churches is never ideal, but First Church will welcome you with open arms and will begin to feel warmly familiar much sooner than you'd think.

More than a church. These people really have become family. They are very welcoming, and gospel is really preached. Nothing is watered down. The Life Groups are amazing here. You basically hang out at someone's house and discuss certain topics. I have been a part of a young adult Life Group and a co-ed softball Life Group. It has been fun getting to know the people here, and can't wait for the new Life Groups they will offer this fall!

My wife and I made this our home church 3 years ago. We were saved at one of the plays First Church Hosted, "Heaven's gates and Hell's flames". Our first steps in this church we felt like family because everyone is so kind and loving. God is working in this church and around the community so much we were called to be a part of it! Strong youth ministries program, Latino services, Wednesday nigh encounter and life groups are a must! First Church of the Open Bible Des Moines is attracting to the youth and young adults. We are 25-26 years old and we love the balance of varies ages and ethnicities.

When I think of First Church of the Open Bible I think of Family. From the first day I walked into the doors until even now 3 years later I have felt so much love and true committment to our family from the Pastoral Staff to all the people that attend. The messages preached are truth & have challenged us all in greater ways to become everything God has called us to be. Its a place to not only be apart of but so many opportunities to minister to others using our God gifts & talents.
